I have had the privilege to be in overseas missions for twenty years, seven in Israel and since 2001 in Mozambique, Africa, one of the poorest nations in the world. My call to the nations has come out of the Great Commission in Matthew 28, to preach the Gospel, plant churches, train pastors and disciple believers. Out of James 1:27 came my call to care for orphans, widows and the poor in their distress. To fulfill this call, God has called me to partner with Mountain of Praise Church, an indigenous African church, which has over 168 churches in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. From the time of the founding of MOP Church, God laid James 1:27 deeply on our hearts: “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” In the MOP Church, located in Dondo, we care for 65 orphans living in two centers and 300 orphans living with families within the community. The church, along with our Christian Association to Care for Orphans (A.C.P.O.), tries to meet the children’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
I thank the Lord for His faithfulness in guiding and keeping us, giving us strength in countless situations such as sheltering and caring for hundreds of orphans and abandoned children, trying to help hundreds of flood victims, distributing thousands of WM Press scripture booklets, receiving new converts, performing baptisms, seeing precious souls get delivered from demons and curses, comforting countless families who have lost loved ones because of war, disease, AIDS, and rescuing infants and children who would have died from malnutrition. I thank the Lord for churches and individuals who have faithfully prayed for me and supported Mountain of Praise Church. May God’s abiding presence and richest blessings be upon you as you consider how you can help as we serve the Lord together in His mandate to care for the orphans, the widows, the sick and dying, and the very poor.
